Disney buys Marvel?!
Say whaaaaat?
I read it earlier (from a friend on facebook), and then heard it from numerous sources (other friends on facebook), and then I googled it, and it seems like it's true. $4 billion, too!
Dayum.
(Check out my MS Paint skillz!)
Tell me I'm not the only one that thinks this is very, very wrong...?
Any of you guys out there Disney or Marvel fans? Personally, I'm both...but as much as I like them, I don't see how this can benefit either of the companies. They're just so...different.
I kind of had the same feelings when Disney acquired the Muppet franchise a few years back, but I think there are actually similarities between the two companies, although not much Muppet stuff has come out in the past few years, even though it's been promised. Most of it dies in developing stages, since Disney does not really know what to do with it.
But then again, the Marvel has had more recent things in the past years than the Muppets. Countless movies, whether they did good or bad, drew in many more fans, and I'm sure got at least some of those people interested in the comics. I am just nervous they will do the same thing they did with the Muppet franchise...let it sit around as the hype of them buying it dies down.
I guess all there is left to do is wait...and see.

Back to school
...Well, in a month, anyways. This semester is looking to be pretty great, for a number of reasons! For example:
-I'm finally living off campus! It's in a scary neighborhood, but I'll be with friends, PLUS I don't have to deal with campus housing and its insect INFESTATION. (It's some crazy, nasty shit!)
-I'm taking Russian I with a friend. It looks so challenging and interesting, which of course equals fun.
-I'm also taking some other cool classes, like one on world religions, which should be pretty cool. I also taking (I think) a creative writing class. The fact that I don't know is kind of scaring me...I think I should definitely check that out like, NOW. Okay, I checked and I am.Other things in my life right now include knitting and crochet...I've been going through yarn like some kind of maniac. My hand actually started to cramp up last night. O_o It was sore this morning. I took it easy today so I don't get like, tendonitis or some crap like that! I made cool stuff though, mostly to keep warm for my D.C. trip this Christmas! My dad's job is sending him there for work for four months, and my mom, brother, and I are going for 2 weeks in December. I'm excited; I've been there once, but this time we're going to Baltimore, MD as well as Alexandria and Williamsburg, VA. Oh, but back to fiber arts...I'm looking for more cool patterns! I will post a picture of my scarf when I finally finish it.
I've also decided that for my summer classes I'm taking French I and II. I might take another language, but I think in the summer they only offer Spanish, French, or Italian. I guess Italian would be okay...but I'm never going to be able to properly speak Spanish, so I give up. I understand every word of it that is spoken to me (my family is Mexican, and I grew up hearing it all the time- actually, nevermind, I STILL hear it all the time!), but there is some sort of mental block that is keeping me from answering in Spanish. So...I gave up a while ago. It just doesn't interest me. Sorry family...
Speaking of family, it is so boring around my house! I didn't do anything today...at least not anything majorly productive. I spent like, four or five hours on the computer and skype just in case my boyfriend got on. He's been in Belgium since the beginning of the month, so I'm starting to miss him pretty bad right about now. His mom and sister got back yesterday, but he decided to stay an extra week. -__- Lame.
I am keeping myself occupied right now by learning basic phrases in Russian. I'm not sure how hard it will be for me to learn the language, so I'm trying to use this last month to get a head start. You know, I've been doing this for like an hour, though, so I'm going to take a break...maybe eat something...maybe draw. I have a pencil and eraser out already...hmm...what to draw...

9-year-old and 7-year-old get married.
At first, I thought this was going to be some sick, twisted thing, but upon watching the video, I got really sad...

The "bride" is a 9-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago, and it was in the hospital where she met the 7-year-old "groom". Their vows were to be "best friends forever", even though she has only a few weeks to live, and he is recovering.Throughout most of the video, I had my attention on the little boy: he seems so sad, (probably because his friend is dying) and yet, I can't help but wonder how this will affect him later on in life. The parents seemed totally okay with the entire situation (and its their kids, so they can do whatever they want, I guess), but I wonder what I would do? What would anyone else do? Is it like having one more big party while you are still all together?
This, and that British woman who is letting the last weeks of her life be filmed...strange ways to go, I think. But then again, why not? When it's over, it's over...and any chance to do anything is gone.
Hmm...okay, back to Archaeology homework now.
